4th International River Symposium
Held in Brisbane in 2001, the 4th International River Symposium focused on “River Business – Turning Community Vision into Reality.” This event highlighted the importance of involving local communities in the decision-making processes around river management. The symposium explored how community-driven initiatives could lead to the development of sustainable and culturally relevant river management practices that addressed local needs and concerns.
The 2001 symposium also emphasised the need for effective partnerships between governments, industries, and communities. It explored how collaborative efforts could foster innovative solutions to complex river management issues. The discussions reinforced the idea that successful river conservation depends on the active participation of all stakeholders, ensuring that river systems are managed in a way that benefits both people and the environment.
