1st International River Symposium
The inaugural International River Symposium, held in Brisbane in 1998, set the stage for a global dialogue on the critical importance of maintaining river health for the environment and communities. This IRS brought together experts and practitioners from various fields to discuss the challenges facing rivers and the solutions required to address them.
The symposium’s success established it as a vital platform for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration on river management. It highlighted the interdependence of ecosystems, communities, and economies in the health of rivers, and laid the groundwork for future symposia that would continue to tackle the evolving challenges in river conservation and management.
