16th International River Symposium
The 2013 International River Symposium, held in Brisbane, focused on “Rivers: Linking Water, Energy and Food,” examining the critical nexus between these three interdependent sectors. Rivers are essential for providing water for agriculture and energy production, but these uses often compete with the need to preserve river ecosystems and biodiversity.
The symposium highlighted the importance of integrated approaches to managing water resources, energy demands, and food security. Discussions centred on balancing these competing demands while ensuring the sustainability of river systems. The event underscored the need for collaboration across sectors and stakeholders to develop solutions that benefit both human and environmental health.
