Our Government Partners

The Australian Riverprize was funded by the  the Australian Government's Water Smart Australia program from 2010-2014.  We thank the Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities for supporting excellence in catchment management and the opportunity to exchange valuable techniques and know-how across catchment boundaries.

The IRF is supported by the Queensland State Government. We thank the Queensland State Government as a founding IRF member and for the core funding of IRF activities, including flood recovery and community project investment.

As a founding member of the IRF, and host city of two Australian Riverprize winners, we thank the Brisbane City Council for their renewed support for the IRF and for their leadership and continued stewardship of rivers and water quality in Brisbane.

Brisbane City Council is a founding member of the International River Foundation and host city of two Australian Riverprize winners. Brisbane is the largest local government in Australia with a jurisdiction area of 1,367km2 and population of over 1 million to administer and govern.

Brisbane is a unique, world-class city, defined by its subtropical climate and diverse natural environment. The curving Brisbane River is the longest river in south east Queensland, flowing through the city and criss-crossing over 38 major creek sub catchments before empting into Moreton Bay.

Council has an outstanding record in water management. We have led the way in water sensitive urban design, created programs to rehabilitate and enhance our waterways, helped develop a water savvy community, and provided accurate and timely information to our community on drought and flooding issues.

Council is committed to supporting the liveability of our city by managing water sustainably. Brisbane’s waterways are an important natural asset that benefits the city’s biodiversity, recreation and amenity by contributing directly to Brisbane’s economy and social wellbeing. Council manages Brisbane’s waterways so that the city remains a great place to live, work, visit and invest.
