Inaugurated more than ten years ago, Riverprize has become a prestigious Prize complementing the International Riversymposium. In September 2009, in its 11th year, the Riverprize Alumni consisted of more than 60 Riverprize finalists and 18 outstanding international and national winners.
The 2009 National finalists were (alphabetically):
1. Great Ocean Road Estuaries, VIC (Corangamite Catchment Management Authority)
2. Oxley Creek, QLD (Oxley Creek Catchment Association)
3. Potterwalkagee Creek, VIC (Mallee Catchment Management Authority)
4. Wilson Inlet, WA (Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee Inc )
The 2009 International finalists were (alphabetically):
1. Avon River, England (Natural England)
2. Lake Simcoe, Canada (Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority)
3. Lower Owens River, USA (City of Los Angeles)
4. Polochic Basin, Guatemala (WWF Central America)
5. Yellow River, China (Yellow River Conservancy Commission)
Becoming a finalist in this prestigious award is an accomplishment in itself. All finalists are invited to attend the award ceremony where their achievements and restoration outcomes are presented to an international audience. They also have the opportunity to present their work to a broad circle of river scientists and practitioners in dedicated finalists’ and winners’ sessions during International Riversymposium.
