Bulimba Creek (Australia) ? Gulf of Carpentaria (Australia)Winner of the National Thiess Riverprize 2005, the Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C) has established a twinning project with the Gregory River in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia. A further relationship with the European Rivers Network (ERN) in France has also been initiated.

B4C is the only Australian Catchment Committee involved in national and international twinning. Bulimba Creek (Australia) ? Gulf of Carpentaria (Australia)A major focus of B4C’s twinning project with the Gregory River is working with indigenous people in the Southern Gulf catchments to foster cultural exchange and environmental learning.

Achievements

B4C has taken an educational approach to the twinning concept and are very experienced in this area. They have established a school exchange Bulimba Creek (Australia) ? Gulf of Carpentaria (Australia)around environmental issues between schools in Brisbane and the Southern Gulf, North-East of Australia. B4C became a foundation member of the newly established Gregory River Landcare Group in the Southern Gulf. Negotiations and project plans for on-ground work in the catchment are now underway. The latest B4C endeavour is a partnership with the European Rivers Network in France, a body which promotes the sustainable and wise management of living rivers.
