National Riverprize Winners
![]() © Atmosphere Photography The National Riverprize was first awarded in 2001 during the International Riversymposium in Brisbane, Australia. There are now more than 60 finalists and 8 national winners who have demonstrated their ability and commitment to restoring and protecting rivers in Australia. In 2008, the Australian Government provided $1 million to fund the National Riverprize over a five-year period. The National Riverprize - valued at A$200,000 in 2009 - is now funded through an Australian Government grant under the Water for the Future plan.
"This Prize is a recognition by independent judges and experts that our approach is good, and that our program is accepted by our peers as best management. The Prize is also a recognition of the many people and organisations which have helped make this work - for the landholders in particular. It is a huge confidence booster for them to know that they are part of a nationally recognised project."
"The award gave the community and our partners confidence in continuing the good work. It created an area of commitment and really raised our profile, the profile of our joint partnerships and of river health in our area. It brought us into the international river community."
