Our Achievements

Although still a young organisation, we have made some significant achievements:

• A Stable Foundation
  Our four founding partners - The Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, Thiess and BMA (BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance) – have collectively contributed a total of A$3.25 million to IRF’s endowment fund.

• Committed Sponsors & Donors
  The Australian Government, Caterpillar, Thiess as well as other dedicated donors such as The Albrecht Foundation and Lindores Group continue to support us.

• Riverprize Excellence
  There have been more than 60 Riverprize finalists and 18 winners since the establishment of the Riverprize in 1999. The monetary value of the Prize has been significantly increased and continues to be the most valuable award in its field worldwide with a current total value of A$500,000.

• Continued invaluable Support for River Managers
  IRF has funded over 200 delegates from developing countries to attend International Riversymposium since the Sponsored Delegates Program started in 2003.

• Successful Knowledge Transfer
  Six active twinning projects share knowledge and skills globally and further their mutual efforts in restoring and protecting their rivers and river systems. More twinning projects in Australia and overseas are currently emerging.

• River Management Knowledge
  Through Riverprize winners and finalists, twinning and other partners we are able to share important and practical knowledge for restoring and managing rivers in a wide range of contexts. Our Riverprize Network comprising winners and finalists is a continuously growing body of expertise and skills. The network members act as IRF Ambassadors and knowledge broker for river health.

• Significant alliances and partnerships
  Well established partnerships with businesses and non-government organisations dealing with water and rivers help sharing knowledge and resources and further protection and restoration of rivers and waterways.
